이번 3판에서는 지구의 모양과 천구 부분을 떼어 서술하였으며, 지구의 모양 단원에서는 우주관의 변천사와 우리나라의 천문학 변천사 등을 새로 첨가하였다. 태양계단원에서는 명왕성의 행성 목록 제외, 카이퍼벨트와 오르트 구름, 외계행성계에 대한 내용을 추가로 서술하였다. 탐구활동은 학생들을 대상으로 직접 실시해 본 내용 위주로 일부 수정·보완하였다.
